About the Society
Portuguese Society of Metabolic Disorders (SPDM), founded in 2002, is a scientific society whose main goal is putting together professionals from different fields under the scope of inborn errors of metabolism.
SPDM aims to promote awareness of inherited metabolic disease, implementing early diagnosis and therapy in order to increase the quality of life and social integration of all patients.
SPDM encourages scientific research, development of diagnosis and therapeutic protocols and organizes regular clinical and laboratorial meetings, pre and pos-graduate courses, as well as an annual symposium.
SPDM scholarships and grants awarded per year
• Three (3) travel scholarships for a short visit or symposium attendance. • A 12 month research project development grant. • A 12 month nutrition project development grant sponsored by SPDM and. Orphan-Europe • Two grants for Pediatric and Adult IEM clinical training in International Hospitals, sponsored by SPDM and Biomarin.
