Essential biomarkers in IEM: basic course
A practical approach to early recognition and initial clinical management
This course delivers highly practical, case-based training on essential biomarkers in inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs), designed to help you respond confidently to common and time-critical clinical scenarios. You will learn how to recognise early warning signs, interpret key laboratory results, and make informed clinical decisions during the first hours of patient management—often before a definitive diagnosis is available.
The course is delivered as a series of six focused webinars, each centred on a key biochemical presentation. You can register for individual webinars according to your interests or clinical priorities, or choose the full series for a comprehensive and fully integrated learning experience.
By the end of this training, you will be able to:
- Recognize alarm laboratory patterns in acute metabolic situations.
- Interpret key biomarkers within the appropriate clinical context.
- Establish an initial differential diagnosis oriented toward IMDs.
- Initiate urgent management measures while etiological studies are ongoing.
- Identify when and how to appropriately refer patients to specialized units.
