SSIEM Adult Metabolic Physicians group

History

Following the 2nd European Adult Metabolic Course held in Paris, January 2010, a group of physicians with an interest in adults with inborn errors of metabolism was convened. This group met formally at the 2010 SSIEM Annual Symposium in Istanbul and proposed to the SSIEM council that an adult specific plenary session and workshop be included in subsequent annual Symposia. Consequently these sessions were featured for the first time at the 2011 SSIEM Annual Symposium in Geneva and were considered to be of great value.

Aims

  • To promote research in the field of inborn errors of metabolism affecting adult patients
  • To provide a collegiate group and to facilitate communication between physicians looking after adult patients with inborn errors of metabolism
  • To promote awareness of these rare disorders that are increasingly recognized in adult medical practice
  • To provide education and training for physicians looking after adult patients with inborn errors of metabolism

The adult metabolic physicians group organises a symposium and plenary.poster sessions dedicated to inborn errors of metabolism in adults at the annual SSIEM scientific conference, to which all members of the SSIEM are welcome to attend.
