SOCIETY FOR THE STUDY
OF INBORN ERRORS OF METABOLISM

2026 SSIEM ETAC ACADEMY

9th – 11th November 2026, Amsterdam

Applications are now open!

The SSIEM ETAC Academy is designed for clinicians and scientists who are early in their career training in inherited metabolic disease.

We recommend that applicants:

  • have at least 12 months of experience working in this field before applying (this means having some understanding of the more common conditions and laboratory assessments), and
  • have no more than 5 years of experience in the field.

You can find the programme for the SSIEM ETAC Academy 2026 below and download it here

The main topics of this Academy will be:

Amino acid disorders
Urea cycle defects
Organic acidemias
Disorders of cobalamin metabolism
Neurotransmitter disorders

To enable more people to access the Acadmey, the curriculum has changed from a 4-year to a 3-year cycle and each Academy has been extended by a day.

The required application documents have changed slightly. Instead of submitting a CV and letter of motivation, all applicants should fill out this form and submit it online here. Additionally we will also require a letter from the Head of Department of each applicant to support their application and guaranteeing to release them to attend the Academy if their application is successful.

Applications

  • Course applications will open on Monday 23rd March 2026, and close at 23:59 GMT on Monday 18th May 2026. Applications should be submitted through the Training section of the SSIEM website (www.ssiem.org).
  • As places are limited, if the courses are oversubscribed there may be a selection process and completion of the application form will not guarantee a place on the course.

  • Accepted delegates will be contacted by Tuesday 16th June 2026.
  • Accepted delegates must pay a nominal registration fee (100 Euro for SSIEM members or 240 Euro for non SSIEM members) for the Academy.
